We aren’t born to make a difference, rather our desire to make a change emerges out of our experiences.
Olympian Leisel Jones is no exception. She won 3 gold medals at the Olympics. But her journey included serious challenges. She has become a change maker because of what she experienced in competitive swimming.
In this conversation Leisel talks about mental illness not only as a personal issue but as something that is intensified by public pressure – which for her included the intensive pressure to compete and perform.
Leisel is clearly extraordinary. At the same time, there is something deeply relatable in her story. When she decided to make a difference she had to wrestle with many of the same questions we all face when we ask ourselves whether we are going to stand up for ourselves or others.
Beyond this chat, you can learn more about Leisel’s journey in her book written with Felicity McLean book Body Lengths.
