When Trump’s anti-immigration police force came to Minnesota in January 2026 – it looked like a mighty protest movement had erupted. And it had.
But big can be deceiving. What looked big was made up of thousands of smaller groups and communities that came together to do their part and defend their friends from abduction and to remove this military force from their state.
Erik Peterson has lived and worked as a community organiser in Minnesota for decades and in this chat he tells us how the big was also small, telling stories of the Parents and Citizens groups who played a critical role in protecting families. Sometimes big change is about all of us doing what we can where we are – and this was certainly the case in this extraordinary story.
This was recorded as the battle was still playing out in February 2026.
